This is an addendum to the above: Kilgalligan was the village where my mother, Katie Murphy or in Irish, Kaitchi or Katchee U'Murachu was born. Our family still thrives there. And it was the subject of an excellent documentary in a combo US/British PBs/BBC production in the 1980's (reedited in 2005)by MacNeill & Lehrer about the English language called "The Story of English" About 1/2 of the 3rd part was dedicated just to Kilgalligan.: http://topdocumentaryfilms.com/story-of-english/ My cousin Michael Dougherty (RIP) who lived next door (Duir or Oak, the letter 'D' in Irish) was a true Seannachie Poet who wrote in both languages & is interviewed in this documentary. Part of the famous film "The Quiet Man" was filmed here: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_Quiet_Man. And, yes, the 'beehive' shaped large 'cairn' is the ruins of St Galligan's Cell or Cill or Kill. It has never been excavated due to the reverence held by the folks of Kilgalligan to his sacred memory. There are many Murphy's, McGrath's, Connelly's My cousin Michael Murphy, the 'Tanist' of Kilgalligan & his son Mihail took me on a fantastic tour of all the ruins, standing stones, stone circles & much else back in my visit in 1989 & 1993. There are coves beneath the cliffs near Benwee Head above Kilgalligan that have probably never been visited by a living person due to the ferocity of the Atlantic there. James Patrick Casey.
